Tsinghua Launches AI General Education System Research

On October 28, 2024, research on Tsinghua’s AI General Education curriculum system for universities, secondary schools, and primary schools was officially launched at Tsinghua University. Experts and teachers from Tsinghua University, the Beijing Education Society, and Tsinghua University High School, staff members from Tsinghua University Press, and more than 90 teacher representatives from universities, secondary schools, and primary schools across China attended the launch meeting.

At the meeting, Lu Xianhe, Editor-in-Chief of Tsinghua University Press, expressed expectations and support for the research. Professor Ma Shaoping from the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, introduced the purpose and significance of the research. Associate Research Fellow Wang Dong from the National Research Center for Information Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, reported on the work of the research committee and its open-source plan. Tan Hongzheng, Director of the Science and Technology Office at Tsinghua University High School, introduced the committee’s practical explorations and research activities. Experts from the Institute of Education, Tsinghua University, and the Educational Informatization Committee of the Beijing Education Society then provided guidance on the direction of the research.

Academician Zhang Bo of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Honorary Dean of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Tsinghua University, fully affirmed the significance of conducting research on an AI general education system. He pointed out the key challenges and pain points in advancing AI general education and proposed necessary measures for carrying out this work.

The meeting showcased the Basic Plan for Tsinghua’s AI General Education System for Universities, Secondary Schools, and Primary Schools (Draft for Comments) prepared by the research committee, as well as the demonstrative AI General Education series of readers. Participating experts and teachers held discussions and exchanges, expressing their willingness to actively take part in the research, provide educational resources and frontline teaching experience, and jointly promote the practical implementation of the research outcomes.
